The abaya is designed to provide modesty and comfort, usually featuring long sleeves and a full-length cut. It can be open-front, closed, or zippered, and is often worn over everyday clothing. Contemporary abayas may be embellished with embroidery, lace, beadwork, or sequins, especially around the sleeves, neckline, or hem, blending traditional modesty with fashionable elements.
Some abayas come with a matching hijab (headscarf), and others may include a belt for a more fitted look.
